Bulgarian Maritime Training Centre was established in July 1974 to help the personnel employed in the shipping prepare for Maritime Administration examinations and trough the years has become a complete training source for professional qualification. In 1989 the BMTC was declared as a national maritime training centre by Bulgarian Ministry of Transport and as a Centre of Excellence in its field over the years has constantly strengthen its position as the leading provider of high quality courses for seafarers working on board merchant vessels.
BMTC carries out a new course "Proficiency for seafarers with designated security duties". The teaching syllabus is designed in compliance with the national standard of Maritime Administration of September 2011. More details can be found on "Brief course psesentation" page

This course is for for deck officers and engineers with minimum watchkeeping officer (engineer) capacity and also electrical engineers. The trainee must know well the mandatory requirements ,means and facilities for oil pollution prevention required as per SectionA-II/1 of Chapter II,A-III/1 and A-III/6 of Chapter III of the STCW.
The course is mandatory for all seafarers on management and operational level, who will work onboard ships following the regulations of the International ship and port security(ISPS) Code and who during performance of their routine duties, will be additionally entrusted with duties aiming to achieve security of the ship.
The purpose of the course is to provide training for refreshing and updating the knowledge and skills of ship engineers who are holders of certificates for chief engineers, second engineers, watch-keeping engineers and electrical engineers.
The course is designed for theoretical and practical training, refreshment and update of knowledge and skills of students in ”Maritime Navigation” in University and Secondary school and the trainees in vocational qualification courses as well, and seafarers holding competence OOW, chief officers and masters of various types of ships on management of bridge team and resources through intensive use of an interactive full mission maritime ship bridge simulator.
The course is essentially practical and consists of 10 exercises of which 6 are joint exercises performed on the most advanced Full Mission simulators Ship Bridge “Polaris” and Engine Room “Neptune” equipped with the latest software and including thorough debriefing
The course is mandatory for all seafarers on support level, including all persons which are not on management and operational level (such as apprentice officers), who will work onboard ships following the regulations of the International ship and port security(ISPS)Code and who during performance of their routine duties, will not be additionally entrusted with duties aiming to achieve security of the ship.
At the end of March 2011 during regular service visit update integration between fullmission simulator Polaris - the only one in Bulgaria of class 'A', according to the standard 2.14 of DNV was completed by the producer Kongsberg AS.
Realization of this project gives unlimitted potentialities for complex training of deck and engine officers in compliance with the requirements laid out in the latest STCW amendments.
Since 2003 Bulgarian Maritime Training Centre is approved test centre.
