Test software at BMTC – Computer Evaluation of Seafarers /CES/ Version 4.0

It is a great pleasure for us to inform you for the newest knowledge test software at BMTCCompetence Evaluation of Seafarers /CES/ Version 4.2. The last improved version contains a large database of over 5000 practical questions relevant to the knowledge of seafarers and extends features for test definition. CES aims to affect the real life of seafarers and to avoid the spreading of the trend for issuing an enormous number of false certificates. Probably you already know that the biggest crewing offices and ship-owners have decided to implement this knowledge assessment software in order to standardize their screening of new hires and training needs and preve. The most frequent areas of application of CES are:

  • screening knowledge level in the hiring process
  • verifying competence of existing crew
  • assessment of personnel to justify and document promotion decisions
  • helping tool in the pin-pointing of training need&designing training programs to meet ISM and STCW 95 requirement

The programme gives us an independent view of the proper level of seafarer’s competence. We suggest that you prepare the checking of your personnel by a test as follows:

  • Based on STCW 95 – for deck and engine staff on the three levels – support, operational and management and for five types of ships – ro-ro passenger, dry cargo, oil and chemical tankers, liquefied gas tankers.
  • For deck officers based on questions on firefighting, advanced survival techniques, radio communications, navigation, Maritime English, Cargo handling and Control of Operations for five types of ships.
  • for engine officers based on questions on Electricical Engineering, Maritime English, Maintenance and Repair, Marine Engineering and Control of operations for five types of ships.
  • tests for junior and senior catering staff
  • tests of Maritime English at support level

The programme gives an additional option to implement specific questions into the tests, tailoring the customer’s specific needs. Questions in the database can be also extracted to be used in combination with own created questions.
Every test finishes with the corresponding result calculated in percent and each agency could point the appropriate percentage for successfully passed test according to it policy.
The tests last approximately an hour and a half and will be supervised by technical persons.
Upon completion of a test, a test report is generated which shows the candidate’s score in each function area. These reports will be printed out and handed to every seafarer who has successfully passed the test.
As you know we are flexible and in case of emergency can arrange carrying out the test for a number of seafarers less than 4. I hope these options will be discussed in the nearest future.
